Hiking along the Zackagiris Educational Trail

Discover the most beautiful corners of Dzūkija together with your classmates.

We invite you to an exciting educational tour of Dzūkija National Park. First, you arrive from Vilnius to Dzūkija by train. The route will start by an active hike around Marcinkonys on the Zackagiris Educational Trail in a company with an experienced naturalist who will share with you knowledge about the natural and cultural heritage of the region.

The trail (13.8 km) winds through the picturesque surroundings of Marcinkonys. You can also choose 7-km or 10.5-km sections of the trail for your hike. The trail starts from the Marcinkonys Visitor Centre.

During the educational tour, you will see the impressive crooks of the Grūda River, mysterious Aklaežeris Lake, the wind-blown Kloniai Hill (Gaidzai Dune) and beaver huts lined up along the banks of the Dziackagiris stream. It will definitely not be boring – the places to visit will interest both a naturalist and an ordinary traveller. Not to mention all the plants and birds included in the Red Book that are an integral part of this wonderful corner of nature.

The route can be adjusted according to your wishes.

We can also include a visit to the ethnographic museum, a candle making educational activity, tasting of culinary heritage dishes, a lesson in the nature school, as well as cycling, kayaking, and paddleboarding trips. Based on your wishes, there is a possibility to have an overnight stay in a hotel or in the nature school in Marcinkonys.

The price of the tour includes services of a guide and the Dzūkija National Park visitor’s ticket.
